Being selected from 400 applicants to be a part of an AMAZING 21 person team was quite the honor, but having such a responsibility was humbling. Meeting and working with the children of La Carpia will forever impact my grateful heart. It took me a couple of weeks after I returned home to realize that the heavy sadness I felt was the flip side of the joy, hope and new beginnings our team brought to this village. I have never known such poverty and I have never known such contentment of a people. Grateful for all they have and not expecting anything meant the “simple things in life” brought about much joy. A new concrete floor, balloons, crayons, paper, rope, rubber bands and TIME was all it took to bring hope and excitement to the entire village. With school clothes, many of these children will be able to have an education and CHOICES in their lives … We MUST continue our work there. PLEASE let me know if you would like to help!
