Well, August began with a couple of life changing decisions. Mom had determined that she was not interested in treatment for her cancer. She questioned the quality of life she would have if she received treatment vs. the quality and time she would have left if she did nothing. Eventually, she agreed to have radiation treatments, but NOT chemo, UNDER ONE CONDITION ... that I continue to follow my dreams to complete my education (BS Degree in which I was in my Senior year when I quick and placed other priorities over my education), AND apply to Law School. I truly believe that I would be a terrific attorney and since Pat enjoys golf and doesn't want to work any harder than he does, and I am ALWAYS in personal pursuit of independence and growth, I can complete my degree by May, enter Law School in the Fall and HELP Pat consumate more adoptions! So ... just when I thought my schedule was exciting, I have now added my commitment to my education. With that decision, I have had to let go of other very important commitments. The biggest is that I had to tell the families of Northwest All-Star Gymnastics (my business of 17 years) that I am not going to be able to honor my promise to coach the girls 2 nights each week. Between Mom's daily radiation treatments and my classes Monday - Thursdays, something had to give. I will however keep my commitments to attend/coach them at all of their competitions (six this Season) during their scheduled weekends. Further, my appearance schedule has been cut back to accomodate my class schedule.
With that said, I know that there are going to be some very big responsibilities ahead of me, juggling family, school and my commitments to National Adoption Month (November) as well as my trip and appearances in Washington DC next month. Well... it will all work out... You know me... it always does!
Oh!!! I almost forgot!! My grand-daughter Katie was able to come visit for 13 days! We had the BEST time! My Directors have been so great to give me the time off to enjoy time with her, my Mom AND get my other commitments adjusted. And... another bit of exciting personal news ... our daughter Allison is graduating, September 13, from the Intelligence Training she has been undergoing the past 6 months! I am very proud of ALL of our Nation's men and women who serve in our armed forces, but there just isn't words adaquate to describe my pride for my daughter Allison's commitment to serve.
May God bless America!
